INTRODUCTION The Emergence of Systematic Thinking in Ancient Greece
The first half of this book is about history of ideas, also called intellectual history. It refers to an overview of the development of those ideas, considerations and inventions that have been of paramount importance for the formation of our societies and civilizations. It takes for granted that some of our ideas are better, more valuable or more useful than others, and that our knowledge and understanding of them will enable us to work towards a better society and an improved civilization. Some of these ideas relate to ethics but others to politics, science and technology.
